Our Phonics Sessions

Our phonics sessions focus directly on the sounds your child is struggling with, along with recapping those they are familiar with. We ensure our phonics lessons are fun and interactive, learning different sounds through play, which can then be applied through reading and writing.

These sessions are typically using the methods schools use to learn phonics, such as Read, Write, Inc. and Jolly Phonics. We can use these methods and resources to follow in line with the schools teaching, allowing your child to catch up at their own pace. Also, we can work collaboratively with schools to ensure your child is on track.

For those who are struggling with the typical teaching methods of phonics, we use Toe by Toe.

What is Toe by Toe?

When one of our students is struggling to read, we always use Toe by Toe! Toe by Toe is aimed at those with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and Autism, and those who find the typical phonics curriculum tricky. They use blending sounds to break up words into manageable chunks so the child can read the word. Toe by Toe uses real words and made up nonsense words, which helps those who have the habit of guessing when reading! Within the Toe by Toe scheme, they look at different phonics sounds that are used in the phonics curriculum, but broken down in a simpler form to make it easier to access reading and writing.

Toe by Toe comes in a little red book, with pages of sounds and words to work through. Consistency is key with Toe by Toe, therefore we ask all of our parents to work through these every day with your child. Some of our children find the red book intimidating, therefore we find alternative ways through playing and games, to allow them the same access as if they were going through the book.

We have seen so much success in our students who have used the Toe by Toe programme and has enhanced many of our students reading, writing and spelling skills.

What we offer

• One session a week

• All necessary tools and stationary provided.

• Homework exercises given out at the end of each session

• A summary of the sounds covered during each session will also be given to parents.

Costs

We believe it is important to assess where your child is at prior to starting our phonics sessions. Therefore, we provide an hour and a half initial assessment which is £60. Each session following this is £40 per hour. 

​

Group sessions available with a maximum of 6 children - £20 per person.

 

If we recommend Toe by Toe, the book is £30 which will last through the entire provision and can be reused.
